Swan Yamaha Win Top Superbike Slot with YZF-R1

Swan Yamaha Racing Team 2011

The Swan Yamaha team, it’s sponsors, team members and supporters are all celebrating after the team’s Tommy Hill secured a maiden MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship title with a sensational performance in the final race of the year beating title rival John Hopkins to the line by just 0.006 seconds. The second place meant that Hill was crowned champion with a two point advantage at the end of the season.

Riding Yamaha’s cross-plane cranked YZF-R1 superbike at the final round held at the Brands hatch circuit in Kent, Hill had to wait for the last race, the last lap and the last corner to earn the coveted mantle of British Champion. With that rider championship also came the prestigious Manufacturer’s championship, which, earned with the help of Tommy’s team mate Michael Laverty, Yamaha are very proud of.

A clearly excited Tommy said straight after the race “I am gobsmacked to have won the title for Swan Yamaha. I was trying to stay as relaxed as possible in that final race. This season has put a lot of pressure on everyone. We have been regularly finishing in the top three and that has set the benchmark and the whole of the Swan Yamaha team have been working so hard all year to make this possible. It has just been a complete shock for me and I feel like we should be having another race next weekend now! It wasn’t until the other riders started congratulating me that I even realised I had won as it was so close between myself and Hopper “.

Superbike racing uses a heavily modified road based machine on slick tyres and is accepted as the premier series. More information can be found at www.britishsuperbike.com and www.swanyamaha.co.uk

Yamaha Victorious with YZF-R6

Chaz davies Logo

After a stellar season that saw Chaz Davies take seven podiums, five of them race wins, the Welshman powered his Yamaha YZF-R6 to the chequered flag this weekend in Magny Cours claiming the 2011 World Supersport Championship title with one race to go.

Davies had a tough race at the French circuit but with a comfortable 35 point advantage, the Welshman just needed to cross the line in sixth place to claim a well-earned championship title. Team-mate Luca Scassa was determined to celebrate the occasion with a race win of his own. The Italian delivered a spectacular victory, his third of the 2011 season.

Yamaha top the manufacturer’s championship with a significant 12 point lead, having won an impressive eight out of eleven races to date, but there is still one race to go and 25 points still up for grabs at the final round of the season in Portimao, so there is still work to do. The Yamaha ParkinGO team have comfortably secured the Team Championship for 2011.

"It's been an amazing season and has taken me 15 long years to get where I am now’’ stated Chaz. ‘’There are so many emotions hitting me all at once. I've worked towards this all my life and I can’t believe I am now in this position. I can't thank my team and Yamaha enough for all their efforts. I certainly didn't think at the beginning of the year that I’d be taking the championship title. My family and my girlfriend have been behind me all the way and I owe them so much. Thanks to everyone who helped make this magical moment happen."

Congratulations to Simon Russell on winning a brand new Vespa LX125 with Get On!

Simon Russell and his new Vespa LX125

Simon Russell is the lucky winner of the latest Get On competition!

Simon entered the Get On competition in the Sun newspaper and won himself a brand new Vespa LX125! Along with the bike he also netted himself a set of Piaggio clothing, FREE insurance and a FREE CBT training course with ACE Motorcycle Training.

Simon Russell:

"Winning the Vespa, plus the training and the equipment was a great surprise but I am delighted. Though I was a bit nervous when I first started the training the guidance offered and the chance to practice safely was just what I needed."

"Despite some fairly wild weather this week I’m already using the scooter – it even saved me from being late when I needed to get across Bristol yesterday. I would never have made it in time in the car, even before I might have started looking for a parking space."

"The plan is to use the Vespa and keep the car off the road – so I will save money, have a lower carbon footprint and enjoy the daily commute more."

"Matthew and the team at Fowlers really looked after me."

Simon picked up his Bike and gear from the Fowlers showroom.

Yamaha Stars In 'Welcome To The Punch'

XT660X Action Shot

Yamaha once again takes to the silver screen as London based production company Between The Eyes, has chosen Yamahas XT660X for the 2012 British action-thriller, Welcome To The Punch. A fleet of six of the supermotard-inspired XT660 models have been supplied by Yamaha Motor UK, which will feature alongside British actors James McAvoy (X-Men: First Class) and Mark Strong (Sherlock Holmes).

Resplendent in menacing but stylish black bodywork, the XT660X’s will reflect the adrenalin packed nature of the film perfectly, looking right at home on the streets of London. They will be used in the opening sequence of the film, which sees the two main protagonists of the film duelling it out in a high speed chase scene.

Principle photography for the film, which is being directed by Eran Creevy (director of BAFTA nominated film ‘Shifty’), started on 18th July and is being filmed on location around the famous Londonlandmark, Canary Wharf, as well as 3 Mills Studios.

Yamaha have been involved in a number of film projects in recent years including the James Bond film ‘Quantum of Solace’ which featured Yamaha 4-stroke outboards in the major boat chase sequence, as well as the Johnny English sequel (out September) featuring Rowan Atkinson and Yamahas FX Nytro XT-X Snowmobile.

Film producer Ben Pugh from London based production Between The Eyes, which is responsible for Welcome To The Punch, said: “It’s a thrill to be able to use Yamaha’s XT660X’s in Welcome To The Punch. They are set to feature in some fast, action packed chase sequences which will showcase the incredible power, speed and style of these bikes.”

Adrian Chiles

Adrian’s Yamaha Super Ténéré Odyssey

Broadcaster Adrian Chiles recently tried Yamaha’s XT1200Z Super Ténéré. It’s fair to say that he was pleased with what he found!

"I'm not a bike buff as such, so can't embellish anything I say about the Super Ten with any technical stuff, but I knew as soon as I clambered aboard that I was in the presence of something twice as magnificent as anything I'd clambered on before. As I pulled on to the dual carriageway for the first time I experienced the strongest urge to proceed in the direction of, say, Athens, possibly off-road. Regrettably, the only odyssey I could manage on it was the very short haul up the A3 from Weybridge to West London. The following morning though I could barely wait for my 3.45am alarm call so I could be King of the Road all the way from Chiswick, where I live, to ITV Studios on the South Bank where we broadcast Daybreak from. I arrived at the 4.30am meeting with a happy flush glowing on my cheeks. "Blimey, you look happy," said one of my colleagues, "have you been having sex or something?" "No, better than that," I said, "come down to the car park later and I'll show you..."

Adrian’s experience is quite typical of the feeling that customers have about the 1200cc parallel twin Yamaha, and for those that think that they would like to share in that emotion, Come have a look at the Yamaha Super Ténéré for yourselves! You will never look back!
